What is Metabolic Typing ®?

It is a custom designed food program that reconizes the biochemical individuality of each unique person. We all know that the 'One Size Fits All Diets'---do not work! Your body responds uniquely to food based on genetics, biochemical make-up and family history and your own interaction with the environment.

“One man’s food is another man's poison”. Metabolic Typing ® is derived from scientific methods developed from studying the major body control systems. These systems have been researched and have progressed over the past 70 years to the present program created by Dr. William Wolcott.

The best solutions are usually the simplest. Once you know your Metabolic Type ® you will begin to choose foods that move you away from weight issues and dis-ease and towards optimal health and vitality, without cravings and the insanity of dieting.

Metabolic Typing ® helps put an end to the confusion about what to eat or what diet (for lack of a better term) that is right for you. When you begin to eat right for your Metabolic Type ®, your metabolism will move toward balance. As you do that, your body will begin producing energy more efficiently from foods that you depend on for your body’s fuel. You will begin to experience an increase in energy, more alert, emotional balance and a more positive state of mind and a greater mental clarity. 

When you know your Metabolic Type you'll discover the inherit strengths, weaknesses and patterns in you metabolism that define your individuality and unique requirments for nutrition. The descriptions here are very simplistic and it is to give you an idea of where you may lean (protein type, carb type or mixed). Protein Types operate best on a low-carbohydrate and high protein and a relatively high fat diet (healthy fat);Carbohydrate Types normally feel best when most of their foods are from plants; proteins are leaner and fat is emphasized less; Mixed Types are a combination of protein and carbohydrate types.

It is important thing to know is your Dominant Factor and this accomplished by taking the advanced test. Lets define some terms so you have a better idea of some of the science behind Metabolic Typing:

The Dominant Factor is a Fundamental Control System (Autonomic Nervous System or Oxidative System) that is responsible for how foods and nutrients behave in the body. Nutrients behave differently when different systems are dominant, even to the point that the same food in different Metabolic Types can have the opposite biochemical results. For example, potassium alkalinizes the body in Autonomic Dominants Metabolic Types, but potassium acidifies the body in Oxidative Dominant Metabolic Types. "The Dominant Factor" explains why what works for one person can actually worsen another person with the same condition.

Two of the major factors that determine your Metabolic Type ® as well as which factor in the body plays a more dominant role is the Autonomic Nervous System and the Oxidation system. There are other considerations within the body that need to be factored in which are the endocrine, steroidal/hormonal pathways and blood type.

Autonomic Nervous System is comprised of two branches:

Parasympathetic Nervous System which slows things down in the body (such as heart rate) and also is about repairing and rebuilding.

Sympathetic Nervous System which speeds things up in the body (such as heart rate) and often referred to as 'fight or flight' the stressor side of the autonomic nervous system. 

The Oxidative System is the intracellular (inside the cell) processes that converts nutrients to energy. Oxidation involves the interaction of the 3 intracellular processes: Glycolysis (metabolism of carbohydrates); Beta Oxidation (fat & protein metabolism); and the Citric Acid Cycle or Krebs Cycle which is the final step of energy conversion involving the products produced from Glycolysis and Beta Oxidation. These 3 processes can be thought of as providing the instructions for energy production in the cells for your body to run more efficiently and optimally.

After you take your Advanced Metabolic typing test we meet once a week for 6-8 weeks to discuss the best ways for you to succeed in your program, creating a unique individual plan based off the results of the test and your lifestyle. During this time we will be finding the right percentage of protein, carbohydrates and fats it takes to normalize your weight, while eliminating cravings; creating a personal fitness program based on your physiological loads (stress) and desired results and creating a customized supplement program---if needed, in order for you to succeed and achieve your goals.

·     It is not enough for us to just eat right; we need to move right for our bodies to function properly. 'Use it or Lose it'---if we don’t create movement within our bodies we can become stagnant (mood, elimination, digestion, etc…). It is equally important not to put added stresses on the body while we do this…more times than not it is about removing stresses from the body and life. Just as important to know our Metabolic Type ®---it is important to know what type of exercise our body needs to be healthy. During this 6-8 week phase of rebuilding health & vitality, we also create a unique energy building exercise plan.
