I met Christi Sullivan 3 ½ years ago when I moved to the foot hills of Colorado. Two years prior I had experienced a major trauma in my life. I was a group fitness instructor and had recently taken a position at a local hospital as health and wellness director responsible for bringing complimentary alternative medicine practitioners to work with the doctors. I was putting in 70 to 80 hour weeks with
very little time off for me. I made a decision to give up my stressful job and move to Loveland. I felt safe and protected nestled up against the foothills. Right before moving to Loveland I had to have a surgery and at the time the doctors had to give me two units of blood. I believe this was due to the trauma and stress that I had experienced. I showed up on Christi’s doorstep 3 months after the surgery, working at a new job, living in a new environment ready for her to whip me back into shape. Most trainers would have given me a workout program and put me to working out hard based on the goals I told them I was interested in achieving. Christi took the time to do an assessment with me and realized through her listening, knowledge and experience that I could probably handle the physical activity but pushing me to do anything at this point in my life would cause an emotional breakdown. When she began talking about Paul Check I was pleasantly surprised. I had been to a lecture by Paul and had already taken the metabolic typing test and had his book Eat Live and Be Healthy. Christi started me on the CHEK beginner program, the Zone exercises – particularly the breathing exercises – and stretching. She told me she wanted me to enjoy leisurely walks every other day. At first I wanted to go find another trainer as my goals were to get in shape, flatten my stomach and be able to run in the Bolder Boulder again and she was telling me to walk and breathe. I took her advise and started walking, breathing and practicing the zone exercises. Since our initial encounter 3 ½ years ago I have ran in the Bolder Boulder again and several other races. My stomach is flatter and it hasn’t taken a whip to get it there. I have completed a yoga certification and also am a MSF Rider Coach and I have been able to help other woman reach for goals and emotional healing in their lives as well. As human beings we are always a work in progress so I am continuing to work with Christi when I am ready and in need of her services. It has been a long journey in healing for me. I thank Christi every day that she guided me gently forward and she continues to do so.
